Since Halloween is quickly approaching, many people’s thoughts have turned to things of a supernatural or terrifying nature. This is a common trope that people use to describe serial murderers. Throughout the year, but particularly now, people are fascinated with true crime, and as a result, podcasts, television shows, and movies about violent criminals draw enormous audiences.
Public interest has been sparked by the mysterious murder of Gabby Petito and the shocking announcement that a cold case unit thinks it has identified the Zodiac killer who terrorised San Francisco in the 1960s.
No one, not even the most perceptive and well-educated psychiatrists, academics, and criminologists in the world, can agree on whether or not childhood trauma, mental illness, or a combination of these factors is what turns a person become a serial killer.
Since scientists still know very little about serial killers, and since the astrology industry has boomed since the pandemic (it’s now a $2.2 billion industry), we thought it would be interesting to examine the most common astrological signs among notorious serial killers.
Do most of them have the fiery Leo temperament or the Libra coolness? Over 500 serial killers from across the globe have been recorded, and we looked into them to see whether there were any commonalities in their symptoms.
Results of Significance:
Cancer, Pisces, Sagittarius, and Scorpio natives make up about 40% of serial murderers. Less than one in ten people are born under Gemini or Taurus.
Capricorn-born killers outperformed those of every other sign in terms of both total and average number of victims. They slaughtered about 800 people altogether, or 19 on average; those born under the sign of Virgo had the lowest average at seven.
According to our findings, the highest proportions of both murderers and victims were associated with the water signs (Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio).
Is There Some Kind of Symbol That Represents Them?
Only a few of zodiac signs were overrepresented among the 485 serial killers we considered for our study. The four signs with the most serial murderers were all mutable: Pisces (46), Cancer (46), Scorpio (46), and Sagittarius (46). The least common sign was Taurus, with 27 individuals, followed by the Gemini sign with 27 individuals.
Our research shows that 38% of serial murderers can be explained by the top 4 signs, whereas only 11% can be explained by the bottom 2.
Some astrologers probably aren’t surprised that Scorpio topped the list, given that the sign’s primary negative traits include hostility, manipulation, and jealousy. Similarly, Pisces may have trouble controlling their outward emotions, Cancer may feel alone because they don’t fit in, and Sagittarius may not think twice before speaking their mind.
What was the body count?
Our compiled list of serial murderers is responsible for at least 5,125 deaths. Note that in determining the number of victims for each serial killer, we relied on numbers that have been legally proven or are generally recognised, even though many serial murderers are suspected of murdering far more people than authorities have been able to prove.
But certain indications are more lethal than others in terms of the number of deaths they cause. Although there were fewer Capricorn serial killers than there were of other signs like Scorpio or Sagittarius, they were much more lethal, accounting for 813 deaths. Instead, there are slightly more than 200 murders committed by Taurus killers.
Given the Bull’s reputation for stubbornness, possessiveness, and intransigence, it may come as a surprise to learn that Taurus serial killers have the fewest victims of any zodiac sign. Taureans have a reputation for being harsh, yet they also have a soft side.
Serial murderers born under the sign of Capricorn may be acting against to their nature, since this sign is often associated with discipline and restraint. However, Capricorns have a reputation for being rigid and demanding that others conform to their standards. As a group, they tend toward secrecy and a protective posture in response.
Killers and their Prey
The majority of our murderers and their victims are characterised by the water signs of Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio. Capricorns, Virgos, and Taureans are the least likely to commit murder, whereas those born under the sign of the flaming phoenix (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) are the least likely to be murdered.

More than 200 of Harold Shipman’s patients in the United Kingdom died under his care between 1975 and 1998. He allegedly killed them by injecting them with a medicinal heroin analogue and falsifying their records to make it seem like they were in critical condition. After receiving his 15 life sentences for murder, Shipman took his own life in prison. Of our 42 serial killers, Shipman is a Capricorn.
According to our rankings, Samuel Little is the deadliest serial killer in American history. Before his death in prison in 2020, Little claimed to committing 93 killings between 1970 and 2005, albeit only 61 of them have been positively identified. Little’s victims were often marginalised people like sex workers and drug addicts, so authorities had a hard time connecting them to his crimes. There are 46 serial killers on our list, and Little is one of them. He was born in Cancer.
Slaves of the State
We were curious as to whether or not there was a correlation between a person’s astrological sign and their propensity to kill, the state in where their victims were located, or both. To achieve this, we looked to a recent study published in the World Population Review that analysed FBI data and found that Alaska had the highest rate of serial murder victims per 100,000 people, at little over 7 in that state. States like Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana make up the top five.
Conclusion
An individual’s horoscope has nothing to do with the long list of things that might go wrong in their life that leads them to become a serial killer. However, there are a few sun signs that are clearly overrepresented among historical murderers.
