The Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are the nine planets in Astrology, and their Navagraha order is Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. In English, the Navagraha are nine heavenly entities or deities.

In astrology, these Navagrahas are extremely important and have a significant impact on a person’s life. The nine planets inspired the seven names of the week. Rahu and Ketu are the moon’s shadow nodes, not planets.

There are nine graha poojas performed. They are revered collectively, as are these planets individually.

It is common knowledge that these planets play a significant role in Vedic Astrology calculations. Several aspects of one’s density are inextricably linked to these planets.

Navgrah Name, Navagraha Positions And Other Essential Information

Below are all the nine graha, what they represent and how these Navagraha influence astrology, human life, and overall well-being.

Sun or Surya is a royal planet and the king in astrology. It represents the soul, willpower, father, paternal relations, the king or the high officials. It is hot and angry. The colour is red, the metal is gold, and the gem is ruby. The Navagraha Sun’s position represents the eastern direction.

The Sun stays in each sign for one month, and the Zodiac cycle takes a year to complete. Its journey is very constant, and many Indian festivities are timed to coincide with the Sun’s entry into each of the twelve zodiac signs. For example, on January 14, it enters Makara, and Makar Sankranti is observed on that day. It enters Mesha on April 13/14, and Baisakhi is observed on that day. The Sun’s arrival into various Signs and Nakshatras is also tied to the change of seasons (constellations). The Pitra karaka, or planet associated with the father, is the Sun.

Moon or Chandra is also a royal planet and is the queen in astrology. It represents the mind, emotions, sensitivity, the mother, house and domestic comforts, milk, sea and all things connected with the sea, hotel and food industry, textiles and apparels: It is cold and calm, its colour is white, direction north-east, metal is silver and gem is pearl. The moon is the fastest moving of the nine planets and takes approximately 2-1/2 days to travel a Sign.

Amavasya, or New Moon day, or the first day of the dark fortnight, occurs when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign. Every 12-degree difference between the Sun and the moon changes the lunar days, or Tithi. Poornima, or the Full Moon day, or the first day of the light fortnight, occurs when the Sun and Moon are in the same opposite Signs or 180 degrees apart. Matra karaka, or the planet associated with motherhood, is the Moon.

Your moon’s sign-in is placed in your birth chart called your Janma Rashi/ Moon Sign. The star constellation in which your moon is placed is called your Janma Nakshatra.

In astrology, Mars, also known as Mangala or Kuja, is the commander. It stands for energy, bravery, younger brothers and sisters, armed forces, police forces, commanders, administrators, high-ranking men, land, engineering, metals, real estate agents, and surgery. Copper is the metal, and coral is the gem; the colour is red, and the direction is south. Mars travels one Sign in about 45 days. He is the planet Bhatra karaka, or brother’s planet.

In astrology, Mercury, also known as Budha, is the prince. Speech, intelligence, maternal uncles, short journeys, the medical profession, trade, computers and the web, astrology and knowledge of the shastras, accounts, mathematics, journalism, printing, and publishing are all represented by this symbol. It is made of bronze, has an emerald gem, is green in colour, and faces north. Mercury travels through each Sign in about a month. According to astrological calculations, it is constantly 27 degrees away from the Sun.

Jupiter, also known as Guru or Brihaspati, is known as the “Devaguru,” or God’s Guru. Higher knowledge, spirituality, priests, temples, teachers, research & scientists, attorneys & judges, children, and knowledge of the shastras and astrology are all represented by this symbol. It is yellow in colour, with gold as the metal, yellow sapphire as the gem, and a north-east direction. Jupiter travels through each Sign in about a year. He is the planet Putra karaka, or the planet of children.

Venus, also known as Shukra, is the “Daitya guru,” or demon guru. It symbolises a spouse, sex life, the kidneys and the sex organ, dance, music, the arts, jewels and jewellers, wines, bars, gambling establishments, acting, fashion, cosmetics, and beauty items. Silver is the metal, diamond is the gem, southeast is the direction, and white is the colour. Venus travels through each sign in about a month and completes the Zodiac cycle in 12 months. It is always within 48 degrees of the Sun from an astrological standpoint. He is the Kaletra karaka, or the planet associated with marriage.

In Vedic astrology, Saturn, also known as Shani, is the servant. It is associated with hard work, sadness, older men, servants, and lower-level workers, as well as persons working in the iron and steel industry, municipal government, and drainage works. A well-placed Saturn can offer great power, prestige, renown, and celebrity, yet a badly-placed Saturn can ruin your life. Iron is the metal, blue is the colour, blue sapphire is the gem, and west is the direction. Saturn is the slowest of the nine planets, taking around 2-1/2 years to transit a sign and 30 years to complete the Zodiac cycle. It’s the Udyog karaka, or earth, which is linked to the vocation.

Foreigners, foreign countries, international travel, engineering and technical trades, smoke, elderly men, grandparents, stealing, gambling, drinking, nonconformists, the underworld, and the destructive elements of society are all represented by Rahu, the Dragon’s Head. It has a dark colour, a mixed-metal composition, and the gem Gomedh. Rahu travels through each sign in about a year and a half, completing the Zodiac cycle in 18 years.

Ketu or Dragon’s Tail represents grandparents, technical trades, spiritual inclinations, superstitions and electronics. Its colour is brown, and the gem is the cat’s eye. Ketu is always in the opposite Sign to Rahu, i.e., exactly 180 degrees away. Ketu also takes approximately 1-1/2 years to travel a sign and hence completes the Zodiac round in 18 years.

Impact of Navagraha Astrology

This Navagraha produces different results and opposite effects while placed in the 12 other Signs (Rashis). Again each has some good results and some bad results in each Sign. This is an essential aspect of Vedic astrology which must be remembered.

At various specific distances from the Sun, the planets Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn become retrograde or appear to move in the backward direction. Sun and moon do not have any retrograde motion. The motion of Rahu and Ketu is always opposite to that of the other planets.

Also, the following are the planetary rule of the below Navagrahas

The periods of the planetary rule are as follows:-

Ketu – 7 years

Venus – 20 years

Sun – 6 years

Moon- 10 years

Mars – 7 years

Rahu – 18 years

Jupiter – 16 years

Saturn – 19 years

Mercury – 17 years

Navagrahas are even found in temples. In the south of India, all the shiva temples have Navagrahas. Whereas toward the north, the Navagrahas are carved on doors to protect the devotees!
